"This doesn't look like much of a mage's guild." Mira frowned at their surroundings.
The entrance to the mage's guild was, admittedly, not very magical. It was a big room with arched ceilings and fancy columns, with comfortable furniture splayed out everywhere, but it lacked... something.
People, that was it.
The room was massive, it should be filled with people meeting and laughing and talking but instead it was entirely empty. It was a stark reminder: you aren't welcome here. If you can't do magic, this isn't a place for you. The room also conveyed the standing and the gravitas of the guild and its members, but more than anything else it reminded anyone who stood in it that they were the outsider, they were the strange one and they were expendable if it came right down to it.
The only occupant was an older man behind a desk, scribbling with a quill pen at a large ledger and completely ignoring the four people standing in front of him, clearing their throats and talking amongst themselves and wondering if they should try and talk to him or just keep waiting for him to acknowledge their presence.
"It gets better when you get inside." Ana frowned, wondering how long they were going to have to wait. "I think."
"Wait. You haven't been here before?"
"Of course not! Like most regular people, I give this place quite a wide berth, thank-you."
Ana and Mira were dressed in suits again. It was the best combination of style and comfort that they had been able to come up with and still keep their thin charade of being wealthy merchants alive. Gowns were too restrictive and even though they would both rather be wearing comfortable leather climbing clothes, that wasn't really an option while going out and about on their daily business.
Ana's suit, this time, was a stunning combination of red, white and black. The jacket and pants were black, the tie was white and the shirt was a very dark crimson. She'd opted for one without excessive ruffles but which was slightly longer in the sleeve than the jacket itself, giving it a kind of understated sophistication. The black and white were stark and unforgiving, but the splash of deep red where you least expected tied it all together.
Mira looked more like she'd just thrown on whatever she could find: orange pants, bright blue jacket and a white shirt that had so many ruffles they threatened to come alive and leap right off her chest. She'd slashed the sleeves of the jacket and pulled out the brilliant bleached material of the shirt underneath to give it a bit of bit of the flare of the dramatic.
By contrast, Mal and Laf were wearing what they normally did: Laf had that shining metal armor and well-tailored pants combo, while Mal was wearing his normal white ensemble with pink glasses. They'd argued with him off and on about it all morning while everyone was rushing around getting dressed and organizing the villa for the maid's visit.
